I wanted a change from my automatic Honda Accord.

I found a 1990 P10 Primera and thought "I gotta have it". 1 day later it was mine :)

Well, I really wanted a VW GTI 1.8 turbo, but when I saw the price :( No way!
Then I went to the Nissan dealer, saw a primera, and fell inlove. Didn't have to sell my previos car (a mazda mx6) for buying it :D and it really is turning heads now, got it on 17 inch white wheels, Super Touring rear wing, and a nice Header.
So I now say, good bye GTI's. :finger:

Well, I needed another car and so I went to the used car lot. I really wanted a Honda accord, but then I came across my "kid", and it was considerably cheaper (same year), and had rear disk brakes and ABS. And it was red :)

Hey, do you see a pattern forming here? I mean Honduh --> Nissan? :)

Damn good question!

I was looking for a new car. Working as a consultant I make some good coin but I potentially have a lot of time on my hands between clients. As John Taylor Gatto said "Bored people make the best consumers." Anyway I started looking for a more prestigious car to replace my 1995 Escort GT.

I really wanted a 1999 Miata but couldn't for the life of me get a test drive. Apparently no one wanted to sell me one. I even expressly told every Mazda sales guy I wasn't even going to consider buying one if I couldn't get a test drive. To this day I still haven't driven a Miata.

I went to the Subaru dealership and took a look at the Rally inspired 2.5RS (i really wanted a turbo impreza) and took it for a drive. I really liked the feel of the AWD but had some reservations about the interior quality and non-folding rear seat.

Then I saw the Infiniti dealership next door. The new G20 looked sweet! I B.S'ed with the sales guy for a bit and took one for a drive. I'd been studying the SR20DE motor for a time and knew it's potential so the lack of power didn't turn me off. I loved it. The feel was great it wasn't too small the interior was solid it flet luxurious in a simplistic sort of way. The controls and pedels were arranged in the way I like them. I couldn't stop thinking about it.

Then I test drove a 1999 Cougar. It had been out for a couple months and I thought I look sweet. Let me tell you the old guy wasn't used to selling to someone my age, early 20's, because he was pointing out shit I totally didn't care about. The test drive was crap (arounnd the block) and the Cougar was not and did not feel quick. It was heavy and not very agile IMHO. Maybe I'd been spoiled by the G. :)

About a month of pondering and dreaming I went into the Infiniti dealership and ordered up my current baby. Super Black 1999 Infiniti G20t with full leather interior, sunroof and of course 5-speed. I haven't looked back.

Now if only people would quit asking me what kind of Acura it is!

I was looking for a used sports sedan for a second car back in 1999. Really wanted an A4, but they were around $18k which was out of the price range for a commuter/2nd car.

I did a lot of research and found the g20 to be the most reliable, best priced and fun car out there.

A couple weeks later we were driving around in a 1996 g20. It is pretty much a base model, now I wish I had held out for a g20t with manual tranny!!!

Last year we bought a loaded 2000 Passat 1.8T - and believe it or not, the g20 is more fun to drive! Of course, the passat has much more power (and will have even more after 'overclocking' the processor:D ), but the g20 just HUGS the road and has a better feel.

guess I need to get some new suspension for the passat! :)

Well let's see...I had a 93 Nissan Sentra 4dr XE, and every car I've ever had was a 4dr, I dreamed of swapping a sr20de in my little Sentra, I've always been the different guy outta my group of friends *cough*honda sux*cough*, I love Nissan/Infiniti, and I knew I had to keep it in the family. So a 2001 G20t was my first and only choice. That was the car I've always wanted. and I have put almost 7k miles on it and its probably the best car I've ever driven. I think this is the best car overall anyone can buy for 25k. period. oh yeah, did i mention that Infiniti's service department is the bomb, nothing can phase them. I went in for a regular oil change the other day, it was like $19.95 or something and they surprised the hell outta me. They, of course, gave me the oil change, then they topped off the fluids plus vacuum and washed my car! I was like WOW, these people rule. Sh*t its already $16.95 just for a wash at Rainbow car wash and damn $19.95 for a wash and oil change, who the hell's gonna do all that for ya at that price. and to top it off, its all on paper to back it up! I was like F*ck yeah! INFINITI Rules!!! anyways, sorry, it got kinda long...

Well, in 1998, my family was looking for a new car to replace the POS Mercury Sable we had. We looked everywhere. One time I was just going through a Car&Driver, and saw an ad for Nissan. So we decided to look at some Nissans and found the excellent Maxima. The choice came down to either a Subaru Forester or the Max. Because of the excellent deals Nissan had at the time, we chose the Max. It was a 98 Maxima GXE auto. That car was awesome! I was in high school at the time, and didn't have my own car, so I ended up driving the Max a lot. I loved that car. It was fast as hell, handled pretty good, and even the basic AM/FM cassette of the GXE sounded great. Since then, I only wanted to get a Nissan, and after some internet searching, found www.se-r.net. I was looking for a classic (91-95? Sentra SE-R), and in the two years that I was looking for one, couldn't find it. There were several with automatics, and one or two with manuals, but competely overpriced. After all this time, I found a 1993 G20 in the paper, but it was a bit out of my price range. After a couple days in the paper, the price was reduced a couple hundred $$$. I still had my mind set on a classic, but started dreaming about how I could have the SR20 engine and the prestige of owning an Infiniti. :D I called the owner and to my luck, it was one of the few manual transmission/cloth seat cars (I wanted cloth because of the hot summer/cold winter thing). I test drove it several times, and had a mechanic inspect it, and everything checked out. So I bought the car a few days later. And I don't regret buying it one bit. For some reason, I started having a liking toward four-door sport-sedans, especially after watching Ronin. Funny how the G20 looks so much like those Peugeots in that movie. :) I haven't put any performance mods on the car, yet. The only thing I've done is replace the weak cassette head unit with a Alpine CD unit.

Anyway, that's my story. Sorry if its a bit long. ;)

I love touring cars and after watching the BTCC, i thought to my self....."got to have one" after watching them win the title. Then the father and father in law got P10's and my mind was set. I started the hunt for a P10 as a P11 was way out of the price range back then.

Then we got a couple of rental cars P11's in at work and i took one for a skid and fell in love even more.
Performance and handling where shit loads better then my Toyota Amon 2.0.

So i made up my mind "PRIMERA P11 OR BUST".

But still the cost was far to much.

Then i found a Stillen built one and thought "wait a but longer, save some money and built one the same for a whole lot less money.
Then, out of the blue Nissan told me where one was that was cheap, 4 hours later i was the owner of a P11.

As a lifelong car nut, and especially of european models, I fell in love with the G20 when they first came out in '91. Although it was Japanese, it had the understated good looks and size of a European sedan, and I was fond of that cool tan/black interior with the bronze tinted windows.
Some of my best friends can't figure out why I'd buy such a "normal" car. I've had Saabs, Golf GTI's, Sciroccos, GLI's, Triumphs, 2-cylinder Hondas (N600), a '54 Ford and other tributes to automotive wierdness. One friend commutes daily in a Lancia, another in a Fiat, fercryinoutloud! Yes, this G20 is "normal" compared to my other rides, but I LOVE the way it handles, and I like the fact that only "car spotters" know what it is. I would have bought a Jetta last week, but now that they've gotten so popular, I don't yearn for one like I did when VW was on the skids!
My particular car was an easy choice. It is a '94 touring, and it meets two specific needs I have. One, the back seat on the touring models is folding (bicycles, bulky objects now no problem). Secondly, it has LSD, which will be a help in the SCCA RallyCross events I enter. I'm looking forward to keeping my car for some time.

We got one cause my girl wanted to stay "Nissan"
and i have the Maxima, so she wanted a SE-R or a G20
and we found one w/ 77k on it and it was 10,500
So it was a GOOD deal. I wanted a stick but my girl was having problems learning how, and plus the 5 speed is so Rare, actually tested a 95 5 speed w/ more miles and more money, so i had to get the best deal.
anyways all i need now is a DET swap, oh and my seats don't fold down, i think it was only M/T that had folding seats.

Northwest Rally: Does your headrest have a hole?
like a pass through, like Integras??
Cause i think that was another thing about the M/T.

92 Max - Yes, my G20t has the "holes" in the headrests. The seats are bolstered differently than in the other G20's I've driven, too.

By the way, I looked at the Nismo site and couldn't find info on a Centralia meet. Do you have info?

We are trying to convince the fairgrounds to let us rent a grassy parking lot to hold a SCCA RallyCross event ( picture an autocross, but on a loose surface, using snow or street tires...slidin' sideways - yeeehaaaawww!! )

I traded a 2000 integra GSR for the Infiniti G20 because that's what I really wanted in 2000 but the dealer could'nt get me what I wanted until this year. I ended up with a jade color luxury 5 speed with the leather package. The Infiniti has better seats & ride, handles very well and though down on power compared to a GSR, has power that seems to be available sooner at lower rpm's. Of course it is roomier and more attractive in my opinion.

I drove the a4 & the g20 back to back and the g was funner to drive even though it wasn't as fast. now the g has a turbo and will blow the dooors of any A4,328,vr6, plus it's a car that you don't see every day people don't know what it is half the time.:bandit:

I will be buying a G20 soon (next week or so)
Why i am buying a G20?
Well, my brother bought a certified used 95 g20 touring. I have driven it numerous times and it is by far the best handling front wheel drive car I have ever driven (and I have driven ALOT of them).
The ultimate decision came when I became fed up with the maintence on my 1988 BMW M3 which sees daily duty as well as track duty. I just got sick of relying on it, and it letting me down on the reliability front. I am still keeping it, mostly as a track car and a weekend car though.
The G20's that I have driven have all handled VERY well, and I can get them to fish tail with ease (I am used to a RWD car after all!). The relative cheapness of them, combined with the bulletproof reliability ultimately helped me make a decision. My brother destroyed and Acura Legend in 2.5 years, a pathfinder in 3, yet his G20 has lasted three years without nearly as many problems.
Plus, I can't deny the touring car heritage. I LOVE my E30 M3, which came out of homologation for Groupe A and Groupe N tourgin car racing. The success of the Primera in the touring car arena certainly helps me not feel so bad about putting the M3 aside for daily driving.

In Short, it was the reliabilty, dealer service, and handling which sold me on the G20. If one is to drive a reliable and great handling car, the G20 is the best choice.

I was kinda forced into buying mine, I had wrecked my integra in a snow storm so I needed a new car. While I was waiting for the insurance cheque I came across this guy selling his slightly accidented G20 for 1000$ Canadian. It had been 3 weeks I was waiting for the cheque for the integra so I decided this would be a good fixer upper and the insurance cheque would be gravy to soup her up...So far the G20 is fixed up and lookin good but I can't find any parts to modify it here..so I guess we'll see what will become of her.

My first car I ever owned was a black 91.

At 1:00 A.M. me and a car load of my friends
were stopped at a light coming back from shooting pool.

All of a sudden we were t-boned by another driver at
45 mph.

My car was pushed 15 feet sideways, and I ended up
with about 1 foot of space between the door and the
e-brake, and the car was completly totaled.

To my amazement, we were on the way to the emergency
center when I let go of the steering and realized my alignment
was perfect.

It drove like it was brand new!
So I bought another.

Unfortunatly we havent done any mods yet. but soon.;)

The reasons:

1. My eyes locked onto the car every time I saw it on the road (since '99 when the new body style debuted) and since then I knew I had to get one

2. The test drive was great. Loved the handling, engine was strong, and of course, I couldn't resist with that styling and body

3. So I can cruize in style for the next 10, 15 yrs... :smoker2:

4. My uncle has an I30 and raves all the time about the service and reliability of the car.. he's been a BMW and Mercedes leasee in the past and says Infiniti beats 'em out flaT

5. Infiniti rocks, get this :flash: >>I got two round trip tix to a choice of 40 locations including Hawaii, San Fran, Carib, Bermuda.. << :flash: - courtesy of a G20 purchase from Lynnes in Bloomfield, NJ

bought my G because about 2 years ago when I lived out in LA, I encountered a silver one that was lowered with aftermaket wheels. I just fell in love with it ..could've been one of you guys out there in the PalosVerdes peninsula. and decided that the next 4dr I get for my commute would be just that. so just last December I got me the 01 model and got the TEIN's and wheels, and muffler for it. it's the best looking 4dr around my neighborhood, dats for sure. :D

I was deciding between the IS300 which was another $12K+ more...considering the snow here in chicago, decided that FR would be kinda tricky for the wife to drive it on occassion. she hasn't driven the G yet since I've been hogging it all the time. gahahaha. :silly2: the G's gonna be my wife's car in about a year from now when I get me the IS300 or 325I in MT.

G's a great car.

Once I turned 16 (got my license) I got my uncle's old car: a '90 Mazda Protege, with basic basic options (no power windows, no power locks, etc etc...). Anyways, I drove that my whole junior year in high school, and first half of my senior year. Let me tell you, this car had everything wrong with it. Anyways, when my parents told me they would buy me a new car, I went crazy. Everyday was filled with researching all the cars I wanted. The list consisted of: Prelude, Integra GSR, Civic Si, Mustang GT, Cougar V6, Eclipse GT, Celica GTS and Accorde coupe V6. It's kind of weird how I chose the G20 since all these cars are coupes and not sedans. Well, parents didn't like the Si because it's tiny, and wouldn't let me get the Prelude (rumors of getting discontinued), and I test drove the Mustang GT (loud as anything at idle, and when you push the car, forget about hearing anything because it is L-O-U-D). I went to school one day and saw a red '99 G20t in the parking lot, and fell in love. Went to test drive it, and fell even more in love. :D That's my story. I love how not everyone has it and it gets looks all the time. :)

kenchan
07-13-2001, 11:44 PM
aww, you shyed away from a prelude? damn, that's my weekend car that I carved through Malibu every weekend. mine's a 98. it's basically asleep in the garage during the week now and I take it out on the weekends only. it's a great car. got all sorts of suspension stuff on it like tein HA's with upper pillow, spoon front and rear tower bars, intake, exhaust, wheels, etc, etc. :D it's a super fun car to drive. i'm starting my 2000 civic hatchback project in maybe 2 months. :D

but going to work with a suit and tie every day, G's my choice for commuting. :)

jcl603
07-14-2001, 11:04 AM
hahaha, yea I shyed away from a prelude :p ... My parents didn't like the fact that the Prelude was 'rumored' to get discontinued after 2000. There were rumors that is was getting discontinued, it was going to be combined with the Integra to form a new car, etc etc... If my parents had let me get the prelude, I would've most likely have gotten it and never would have even considered the G. I'm kind of glad I didn't get the prelude though. I mean, it's a great car, but there are just too many of them around the DC area. I'm glad I chose the G, and have no regrets!:D

I had a '95 Grand Cherokee that I liked alot, but the gas mileage was killing me.

I wanted something smaller, with better gas miileage, and I wanted a manual.

I looked at an Integra, but they wouldn't pay off the jeep.

I looked at the G20 and they paid off my jeep.

Plus since I've had mine I've only seen about 10 or so of them on the road in Northern VA.
