It's official I've added another thing to my automotive hates list. that thing is replacing axel boots. I just finnished replacing a torn axel boot on my subaru 360 with the engine in - here's a car that you can rebuild the engine of in 30 minutes, but takes your two hours to replace an axel boot!
Other things on my hate list: springs (all of them) and brake fluid.

That's why you just replace the whole axle.

You try finding parts for a car, that according to the man at the counter of the auto-parts store doesn't exist... Another thing I hate doing - going in and trying to order an interchangeable part from a different car for the 360 - every time I walk in with the part number I get "And this is for what kind of car?" I tell him it's for a '69 Subaru 360, he looks in the book "1969?, I didn't even think they made them back then." is his reply - after 15 minutes of looking he says they have nothing, he then proceeds to call somebody down at the warehouse to see if such a car as the '69 Subaru 360 even exists - at the very point in time I'm about to tell him that the part is interchangeable with such and such car (like when I tried to order the rebuild kit for a 1961 VW for my '69 Subaru) After talking for a couple moments on the phone the guy at the counter starts laughing (I can only imagine that guy on the other end of the line is relating some anecdote about when he and his friends picked up the nieghbors 360 and hid it somewhere...) This happens EVERY SINGLE TIME I ORDER PARTS!!!

Go 2stroke!
Anyway, some of my personal favourites are changing gearboxes and removing engines. Always get bruised, sore often cut etc. :(

Actually I should have just put brakes, because that combines brake fluid and springs, into one highly annoying package.
Apparently you have less trouble getting engines in than you do taking them out?

Not at all. I mean the process of removing and putting an engine back in is a royal PITA. And as for brakes - amen. I have had someone pump the medal and squeeze the calipers :bloated: Not good.

I hate noises. They're never good, they never come from where you think the problem is, and they never happen in front of the mechanic...

I hate y-pipes!!!! I had about 5 bruises on different parts of my body from installing mine on my previous car. The bolts are tight as shit, and the pipe is heavy and dirty. That had to be the worst mod install I've ever done. Had to get the dudes down at Meineke to untighten the bolts for me.
p.s.: don't tell anybody I have a y-pipe :sorry:

changing the spark plugs on my beast is a royal PITA!!! First my hands get the shit cut out of them and packed with grease, then the leading plugs are always a bitch to turn, and im always owrried that im crossthreading the damn things. I can only move the ratchet about 1 inch, so it makes turning veeeery slow. If it wasnt for that damn PS pump that isnt even working!! GRR!:biggrin2:

Personal hate on my Impreza is changing the plugs, not a seriously difficult job but a bitch when you have to take out the air filter and all its bits on one side of the engine and the washer fluid and other junk on the other side.....
Flat-4's are great until it's time to change the plugs......
Oil changes on the other hand are a piece of cake :bigthumb:
