Why would you want to have a geo forum? I mean the only thing there good at is gas mileage and thats it. The rest is junk.

Geos are awesome! With the 3-cylinder, the is one horsepower for every $173.91 of price. Compare that to $1610 a hp in a McLaren F1, $455 a hp in a Ferrrari 550 Marenello.

A Camaro Z28 is only $70 per hp, so it gets whopped by it.

And if you turn on the air conditioner its only a 2 cylinder!!!

2 cylinders all to myself. YES!!! Then when people ask you cabout your car you can say it has a "twin", just like a harley, and respect will follow you all the way to your car.

Geo's have their own little appeal. They're just like go carts. They zip around with all their might, and while goiong slow, the driver is having an absolute ball. It's one of those cars you get to drive flat out everywhere you go. If I was a billionare, I'd have a Metro, just for fun. They rock.

you say that the horses are cheap but they dont push you anywhere fast a sports car has the horses and uses them unlike the geo. All the girls love that roar of two cylinders barreling down the street. Ya gotta love the space in those things too. There's R/C cars that go faster than a geo.:o

My idea of a go cart has a Lotus and 340R badge on it. Even though it lacks the thunder of those 3 (minus one with air, so twin) cylinders.:flash:

Yeah, that is like people who buy KIA's and their excuse is "I don't have a lot of money and can't buy an expensive car." Why don't they buy like a 97 accord or galant or something. It would be cheaper, safer, cooler, more powerful, more reliable... you get the picture.

I'm trading my integra in for a Metro.. and they're giving me back money... suckers!

New to this site, but this is exactly what I'm looking for. All we need now is more ppl to participate.

The Geo Metros are a great choice for an automobile for many reasons.

1) Cheap as dirt. A used geo can cost anywhere between 200 and 5000 dollars; and almost every Metro engine out there will last for 150k miles if not more. Need new tires? No problem, the metros roll on 12's - rubber for these is kinda hard to find, but still dirt cheap.

2) Safe. Yes, I said safe. A metro (that hasnt been modded out) will never exceed 90mph, and anything over 60 is so scary that it causes the driver to panic and slow down. Granted, when a Ford Excursion and a Geo Metro collide, the Geo Driver is likely to die, making it all the more important for a Geo driver to pay attention constantly in order to avoid death; and thereby making it even safer to drive a geo metro.

3) FUN!!! Geo Metros are fun as hell if you treat them as jokes. Crack jokes about your metro and everyone will laugh. Tell people your car is a 3 cylinder and watch them stare blankly at you. Fill a metro full of friends and see how fast you can make it go! Create your own parts with misc. things from Home Depot (Air Intakes, Hood Scoops!)... You wont even feel that bad if you want to hit your car with a sledge hammer because you only paid $500 for it anyway. Once you hit the realization that you are not going to sell your car to anyone, that after you its getting smashed, then you can do whatever you want to it! Drill a hole in the roof and put a stobe light on top, (illegal in most states) but you cant do that in a Honda Accord or a Chevy Camaro (unless you WANT to waste your money)...

4) Money $$$. This ties in with reason #1.. Since GEO Metros are DIRT cheap, you can buy a decent '89 metro for $700 and drive it for probably another 50k miles at least (depending on a lot of things, but generally speaking geos last forever) versus spending $12k-25k on a new mid-class car and losing $4-15k over the same period of time driving the same ammount of miles! The geo is the smart solution, save your $$ and drive a GEO! The insurance is cheap as salt water Honalulu, and gas mileage can be upwards of 50mpg! Tires are cheap, brakes are cheap, and after the tranny wears out... well forget about it and keep driving anyway.

I want a Geo to go mud ridding in :D My friends hyuandai excel is fun as turd. We went rallying the other day down some truck trails, and tore up a muddy cotton feild. That thing is indestructable.

My Uncle and his friend used to go mudding in a VW Beetle. They would just pick up parts as they fell off:D

All Geo Metros, from the first model year (I am not sure which year was the first year) have 3 cylinders. The Geo metro came in two trims. LSi, the luxury trim fitted with A/C and AM/FM radio, and the base model XFi. Both Geos housed the same 1.0L I-3 engine.

There is a turbocharged 1.0L engine available, Pepboys was selling it rebuilt for $1600.

There is no such thing as a 4 cylinder geo, the newer chevy metros have 4 cylinders and I believe the chevy sprint also had four cylinders, but all of the GEO metros came stock with the 3 banger.

Sorry, but the Lsi metros have a 1.3L 4 cylinder with 79 hp. That is the base engine on the Suzuki swift.

Well Chris brings up a good point, there have been many changes to the metro between '89 and now. One of which, the newer metros do indeed come with a larger 4 cylinder engine. Anyhow, the LSi models up to 1994 as you can see in my signiature, do indeed have the 993cubic cm 1.0L I-3 engine producing roughly 55bhp. But, as chris mentioned, 1994 ushered in the stronger power plant for the LSi. The base model still running the 3 banger.

I would like to thank Chris for pointing this out, but I suggest that next time we try to share information in a less 'in your face' manner.

I'm going to agree with most of the posts so far.

All Chevrolet Sprints from 1984 through 1988 were three-bangers. Some were offered with turbos, upping the hp from 49-52 to 70. In 1989, the Sprint became the Geo Metro and carried over the Sprint's non-turbo threes (XFi for the high-mileage version with 40-some hp and the rest with 50-some hp). In Canada, the Chevrolet Sprint name remained (as did the Pontiac Firefly from the previous generation) and the turbo motor remained.

The third generation of this car was called the Geo Metro, Chevrolet Metro, and Pontiac Firefly (I'm avoiding treading into Swift/Forsa territory for this discussion; the model I prefer), depending on the year and country. The four-cylinder was introduced with this edition. The final Chevrolet Metro went out of production in Canada early in 2001.

I've driven most brands of cars, including Geos (Metros, Prizms, Spectrums, Trackers). I can't recall actually driving a Storm, but I have studied them a bit.

It seems that most everyone wants a Lamborghinni or a Ferrari or a kickin car like that, but very few people can give credit to the fun and excitement offered by the Geo. I can only speak of the Metro of course, but cruising around in something reminiscent of a modern day pacer or gremlin, I probably turn just as many heads as one of the more exotic car brands would. Its a beater, sure, but its still a hell of a lot of fun to drive, every time I go somewhere there is always something that gets me laughing, especially when theres friends along for the ride.

I can see the fun factor here. I have an 89 Topaz to learn a stick on, and it is fun to drive. It is pathetic, but for $300, where else can you get this much fun:D But the 98hp 2.3L is a weeeee bit faster than a 55hp 1L 3:rolleyes:

Stick vs. stick, the Topaz is probably slightly quicker, but not much due to its weight.

As for the point of the turbo Sprint/Metro, it was a quick and fun little car. When your car weighs less than 1800lbs, 70hp goes a long way. I was shocked at how much fun the Turbo Sprint was to drive...back in the day (this was 1986). My Swift is even quicker (when it was new, C&D claimed 8 seconds to 60...not bad for a car that had a list price of under $10k in 1991 with 4-wheel discs). Heck, the 1991 Chevrolet Camaro RS V8 did 0-60 in about the same time, and my car gets 35mpg day-in, day-out.

Hudson: I am a huge enemey of weight. So I guess that can explain some of the fun. As an aside, if a lowly economy car can be so light, why can't high-tech exotics be this light? With all of their technology, carbon fibre et al, the Murcielago is over 3500lbs, the 911 turbo is 3400lbs, even a Lotus elise is 1800lbs (equal with these little cars, and a feather by todays standards). Why can't they make them light and fun? Look at the Alpine A106 Millies Millies, it weighed 1100 pounds, with about 50hp.

Harley-Davidsons have 2-cylinder, 4-stroke engines. And their TWO cylinders have the volume of my car's FOUR cylinders. My four-passenger car also gets better mileage than a 2-passenger, 2-cylinder Harley.

I know, get a v-6 from a Honda Valkyrie! Thats like the tiniest v-6 i have ever seen! Swap that in for that I-3 and turn some heads!

Here's a good idea, take a Geo storm (they are slightly bigger than a metro) have a tube frame welded up for it, tub it make it RWD and drop in a blown 350 w/ about 450-500hp right over the rear wheels. lower it down so no one can see the huge assed tire you'd need and put on a really quite exhaust. It would make on hell of a sleeper if it didn't kill you :)

My dad used to drive my grandmothers Metro around sometimes, it could barley get up the hill to our neighborhood with him and I in it. LOL. Its a 96 though, so I think it has a 4 banger am I right?

The hatchback was the only Metro offered with the 1.0L three in 1996...and only with the stick.

I just bought a 93 metro lsi convertible 5-speed with the 1.0L, This thing runs damn good!! It's to get be by while saving $$ for my 91 eagle talon TSI AWD 5-speed (TSI=turbocharged), getting a stage 3 engine in parts.. and T4 or t3/t4 hybrid turbo.. but anyways...

So far I've done some cheap inexpensive mods: painted gauge cluster outline silver, added momo shifter, painted headlights to 'euro' look. it'll be getting an exhaut soon.. 2.5 catback.

I'm thinking of slapping a 4g63T (generation 1 dsm engine) into the metro.. I think I can get it to fit.. this 2.0L 4cyl puts out 205hp stock.. I've heard a Mazda Mx3 engine will bolt in. I'm looking into this..

I see very little reason spending money on the 1L engine.

But a 200hp engine in a metro would be cool: and at only 2000 or so pounds, very fast. Too bad its still FWD

My buddies meo did the 1/4 mile in 6.851 seconds at 196.9 mph.
It took four of us to push it down a 80 degree slope.

lol, too funny GeoMaster! I have a very good imagination, & to paint the picture that everyone with a Metro is a scared nervous wreck, in fear for their lives that a car/truck will come by & squash em like a bug is very funny 2me. :D

sadly tho, this negative feelings about these small cars is not far from the truth as alot of people have asked me how I could own such a tiny car (esp being 6'1") , a friend useto says that this car will be my tomb one day. lol, ah, I really don't care what they think. (that same friend now owns that car!) this is my 2nd one, my 1st was a mint 91 3cyl, 5speed hatch, I took that car from NJ to Seattle Wa & back & it only cost me a $110 gas each way with two other buddies riding along! man, I had fun with that little car, very dependable, & Suzuki built.

I remeber as a gag, & just to piss off a freind (honda/acura luver) I carefully removed all the Geo Metro stickers & put on OEM Acura Intergra with "Hatchback Edition" letters (I had this made at a vinyl shop in gold tone like the rest), to put it under "Intergra" on the right. which was stupid because all intergras are hatchbacks anyway. it helped that my metro's color was almost exactly like the popular color used on the Integras too, that Aqua metalic light green. over time you wouldn't belive the morons that came up to me & asked, "wow I've never seen that model integra!" or "is that a new model?" after a while I just went along with the BS.

also for shits & giggles I took a computer air cleaner can, mounted it upsidedown, by the pass strut, & routed a thin tube out the pass side wiper spray hole (if you've never sprayed an air can upsidedown it comes out as a white gas looking like NOS :p ), triggered by a bike cable under the dash. it fooled alot of people. especially since I had a small NOS sticker, dead center on top my windshield. I even got an AAAOOOOGAAAA PepBoys special fun horn for it. ahh, that car was text book rice. :)

To those who doubt the viability of going nutty on a 3-cyl, just visit the Turbo3Haven. (http://forums.delphiforums.com/turbo3haven) With a lightweight chassis, anything is possible especially considering boost is readily available.

I must admit, before owning my first turbo-3cyl I was not a believer. However, at $500 I couldn't refuse the opportunity to buy a Turbo Sprint. Curiosity got the better of me and it was too cheap to pass up!

My biggest gripe with the cars (Sprints, Metros, Swifts) would be that they are largely FWD. There were some JDM models that got a funky AWD setup that was technically 4wd, but those were few and far away.

For the record, my $500 Turbo Sprint ran the 1/4 in 15.9@91mph. Check that mph! There was so much that went into making the car go that fast, but I'll try to list them all here: a MBC, exhaust, tune-up, air fuel, and my right foot. Spending $700 to smoke 3rd gear never felt so good. (maybe that's because I'm also a Subaru guy, who can't smoke tires in any gear?)

Geo Metros are one of the best cars in america, over 40 miles to the gallon, reliable, and one hell of a fun car to drive. My 97 metro 3 banger performed awesomely against a 4-runner offroad, now thats great...just tellin yall.

i own a 96 geo. its bad ass i go muddin with it n basically beat the crap out of it...but unfortunately it still runs. it has 186xxx miles on it. yes it is the infamous 3 banger with 50 somethin horse that barely gets u down the street but hey. i actually did get it up to 97 mph tho...goin downhill slightly but its still 97. i just got my 91 dakota runnin tho so i have big plans for my geo!! :) im goin to strip the interior swap a new obviously still small engine in n make it a lil rally car. till then still beat the crap out of it every now n then. mostly rainy days n stuff...good for muddin

also i forgot to ask about the turbo 3cyl. i am quite interested in this turbo portion now so anyone with info please post i need to know all i can. thanks

DOHC 4 cylinder from a suzuki swift GTi is a MUCH better swap than a turbo 3. You can get 250+ hp on a limited budget with a nice turbo setup out of that motor, on stock internals. Check the links in my sig, it'll show you my old G13b swap
