Putting a SOHC VTEC head onto a SOHC Non-VTEC block thus making the engine a SOHC VTEC.

Yes it can be done, and yes on an auto also, tranny has nothing do with the engine really.

What kind of head would i need to look for? I can just take mine off and put it on there? This is all new to me. Thanks for the info.

A D16Z6 or D16Y8 head would be the best choice.
Yes it will bolt right up. You will need to do some wiring but it should't be that bad.

Only if you don't have mpfi. Im plannin on doing a mini-me swap here within the next couple of weeks too. Its not that complicated to do. ive got a D16a6 and im gonna use a D16y8 head (96-00 civic ex). should be a good time. The hardest part will be wiring the apexi afc vtec controler and the tuning i think. If you want more info you should look in some of the older threads. I picked up alot of good info from them.. im sure u'll be able to do the same :iceslolan

From what i've gotten from differnet people its not much. 10-15 if that. They way that im feelin is that it won't make that much of a difference but the vtec will give it that little kick and its bound to feel faster than my d16a6 so... Im gonna do it. just have to find a good head

as easy as a full swap is...u might as well take out the d16a6 and put a whole d16z6 or d16y8 in there...they are a dime a dozen these days

Your absolutly correct. Zc and Y8 engines are a dime a dozen. I really want a b16 or B18b but right now i just can't afford it. The engine and parts are cheap but i dont' have the means and time to install it myself. Thats where alot of my cost comes in INSTALL. :frown: Doing a full zc or y8 swap is pointless for me. Doing the head swap is just something to hold me over till i can get what i really want. I know me and Ami discussed this before but i still think it will be worth the time to get it right.

Ha ha nice pic!! If you're gonna go swapping D-series about, why not go D16a8, go DOHC.
