When I start up my new Taurus, there is this annoying ding ding that repeats three times. It is not the seat belt warning, or a warning of any kind, just an annoying ding ding. I am not a school kid amused by little bells and whistles, and after studying the manual to death, there is no reference for turning this off. Anyone know how to turn off this annoying and useless nuisance?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Does your dome light work? Alot of modern cars have a feature to activate the chiming if the dome light or fuse is bad.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the dome light works, everything seems to work. This annoyance has been there from day one (new) and I had it back to the dealer for a recall a week ago and they gave me a little Ford Focus loaner, and it does the same. I forgot to ask the dealer about it, as I was more concerned about the leak in my sun roof and the recall item, and so happy to have my Taurus back after the little loaner.. It is a bit of a drive back so I will either wait until I am over that way again or give them a call. Maybe they can remove it with their scanner or something. Don't know why it irritates me so much, like someone scratching their nails on the chalkboard. One day I am going to rip the little dinger out of the dash. :iceslolan:evillol:

I remember in the 70's my grandparents got a new Lincoln. Long before seatbelt laws, it had a dinger to let you know you hadn't buckled up yet. Refusing to wear a seatbelt, my grandfather had that thing ripped outta there in a hurry. He later traded it in for a new Cadillac. Instead of the click for the turn signal, it had a dinger. That dealer said they couldn't remove it, integral part of the switch they said. He went back to a Lincoln the next year. I guess I'm saying, it could be worse, you could have something that dings every time you use the turn signals or non-stop. Maybe when Rod reads this he'll have an idea.

I suspect the triple chime is a test of the chime, similar to the bulb tests in the instrument cluster, every time the car is started. There are "features" that activate the chime in the event one of the instrument cluster indicators fails, such as if the SRS system determines the Airbag bulb is burned out or removed. In that even, the chime will be activated to identify the driver to an issue. Somewhat interestingly in this case, if the chime stops, you may be happy, but that would mean there is an issue with the car. ;)

Thanks for the reply, Rod. I suspect the same; some diagnostic test. Perhaps it is best to just forget it and live with it until I can trade it. Beautiful looking car, loaded with pretty well every bell and whistle available, nice for tooling around in the city, but I would rather drive my 06 Buick Lucerne on the highway any day. And, some days, I pull the old girl out and drive her to work, and leave the Taurus at home. I do a lot of highway and the Taurus is just not the highway car for me. Thanks again.
