Faceplate

Mine got Stolen (assholes!) and I'm wondering where I can buy a new one. I still have all the paperwork, the deck, everything else. It's from a Clarion DRX8575z. I bought it from Crutchfield a long time ago, when they were clearing them out. Can I buy a replacement faceplate from them, or should i go through Clarion. Any suggestions? Thanks

It'll come from the factory some way or another...Im guessing it would be easier going through them directly rather than dealing with a 3rd party.

I think it would be difficult to get a new faceplate, becuase the point of the detachable face plate is that the stereo will only work with a faceplate that is programmed for. So if it was that easy to get a new faceplate, why would they make them detachable?

So you can take the faceplate with you, or hide it (or try in my case) so theives won't take your stereo, because without the faceplate it will not work. And each model will probalby have a different faceplate, i doubt they make individual faceplates, or program them for each deck, that would take a lot of work on their part. (but i may be wrong)

yeah, but then it wouldn't make sense to even make a stereo with a detachable face. And if it was that easy, thieves could just take the stolen stereo, call the company, give them the serial number from the headunit, and get a new face.

But the whole point of stealing a deck is so that you don't have to pay for anything. You are going to have to pay for the face plate from the company, they don't just give it to you.
If a thief sees one car with everything there, and another car with the face plate off, they are going to take the complete one. You think a thief is going to take the time to contact the dealer to pay and wait for the face? Hell no, they want to pawn that thing off as soon as possible.
Detachable faces merely make theives think twice about taking your unit.

If I was a theif, I would just steal a different head unit instead of taking all that time to call and order a new one..

Well, I guess I see your point. The whole thing does seem to not make sense in a way.

AS long as you have the main unit, and are registered (or have receipts) verifying you as the original owner, by contacting the manufacturer, giving them the serial number you should be able to order a replacement.:smoker2:

Hi,
I'm a newbie here - actually I just bought my 1996 G20t yesterday,
but I've been lurking on this great Web page for a few days looking
for ideas and clues as to whether to buy or not, and what to look for.
Anyway - this thread caught my eye a few days back because the
very same thing happened to me(with my previous car) last year.
I also lost my Clarion faceplate, and I spent 2 weeks going through
the store and Clarion Canada looking for a replacement.
In short - yes, you can order a replacement(especially if you have the original Bill of Sale) but the price of the faceplate is prohibitive.
My entire unit cost me just over $200(Can.), but the plate alone
would have cost me about $100.
Instead, the store offered to help me out and sell me a newer, more
powerful[4x45W] unit(AM/FM Cassette with CD controller) AX-460D for just $150 plus $40 to install it.
As much as I hated the waste of a perfecly good old main unit - it made
sense financially.
You might luck out price-wise as well, because this is the time of the
year Clarion and its distributors clear the year's inventory.
Look for X-mas sales in the local papers.
Good luck!

Yeah, I checked about a week or two ago... yeah yeah, I know... I procrastinate.. haha. And the replacement faceplate is 220.00 The deck was a very expensive deck (about 600.00 if i didn't get the hook-up), but i'm thinking I'll go with a new alpine or something in the $300 price range. this sucks.

Damn that sucks. How long have you owned the deck, or more importantly did you get a warranty and did it expire. Most of the time the store will get the replacement face for pretty cheap. $220 is pretty damn steep though. Get a Eclipse deck, that way if someone steals it you can globally track it down and bust some heads.:D

I'm gonna hide my faceplate every time I leave my car for now on. :o

Best bet is to take it with you, afterall that is why they started making detachable faceplates. If I were a theif, first thing I would do is look for your faceplate under the seat, behind the seat, in the door, the glovebox, the center console, etc....thats how they got JustinP10's. If you cant bear to lug that thing around...at least hide it in the trunk, or engine compartment...

Like I said, if you're that worried about it; get an Eclipse.
