Hi my name is erick and i drive a 94 camry with the 5sfe. I had a water pump go bad and shortly after my distributor went bad also. I got the car down to the point where i am putting it back together but as i am lining up the marks i notice my cam shaft is out 180°. I know what you are thinking, due one turn and it should line up. It dont because when i put my distributor in it is on the number 4 spark plug. The only logical explanation i could come up with is when i took my water pump out, it locked up causing the timing belt to jump teeth. I dont understand how i havent blown the motor. Any help at all will be great. Need the car running asap.

I think the problem is with the distributor/ignition timing, not the cam timing. Line up the timing marks and find out how to get the distributor on correctly, then time it.

Maybe you just need to step back and rethink this. You may be ok. It's easy to make a mistake when you're in a hurry.

I got it fixed yesterday. What i did was rotate the spark plug wires 180° and it fired right up with no problem. How much of a difference is there in the mr2 distrubitor and the camry distrubitor? Was wondering. Thanks for the help though.
