'90 eighty eight STALLING

I have a 1990 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight Brougham Royale with a 3.8L V-6, and very often when i'm driving, the car stalls. It happens when i turn the car off after when the engine has been running, and start it up a few minutes after, BUT, if i keep trying to start the car after, it wouldn't start till one of the sensors kicks in and sets the idle, and it never stalls after that till i turn it off. I would think its a sensor, but every car on this forum that has the same engine in the same years 88-93 with the same stalling problem can not find a solution. I'm sure its not an electircal or any other problem, but a throttle problem. Any help would be great.

Try and scan the car for codes. Actually you can pull the codes by jumping A & B on the ALDL connector situated below the driver side kick panel. You have to know how to read the flashes. If you get code 41, which is your crank sensor, replace it. It will cause your no start when hot.
As for stalling, you may have another problem. That should be verified by checking for spark after it stalls. If no spark, replace the ignition module. I've done a few of those now that the weather is getting warm. Good Luck.

need a new engine

could be a fuel pump relay....there are 2 of them
one primes the fuel pump whene you first turn on the ignition
the other one kicks on whene the oil pressure switch has proper oil pressure
if the first relay has gone bad and isnt priming the fuel pump your car would crank until oil pressure comes up then the fuel pump would come on and the engin would start happy hunting

Mine stalled once or twice the first time you would pull it out of park in the morning. then it ran fine the rest of the day other than a little bit of rough idle. I quit gassing up at shell and stopped using cheezy walmart injector cleaner and it never did it since. That was last year.

Try pulling off the Idle air controler (( little round object with two wire and two screws holding it to the throttle body )) and remove it and spray it down with carb cleaner and make sure it moves freely in and out (( some force is need to move it but not to much )) this sets the Idle and is it's not working you'll have all sorts of problems And most of time a good cleaning is all it takes ...

My '89 Royale stalled on a highway two weeks ago as I was @ 50 mph. Had it towed to my mechancic and he replaced the crank sensor. It's been fine since.

That is a very very common problem with all the 3.8's from 86 to 95 or so. even later there were a lot of problems with those Crank sensors.

It could be a variety of issues, just get it scanned.
