What type power steering do you have? Electronic power steering has no power steering pump. Hydraulic power steering has a power steering pump.
If electronic power steering, maybe you'll get lucky and it will set a code. Some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free. I don't know if the auto store will check manufacturer specific codes?
Of course, if the power steering is hydraulic, no codes. What about the belt for haudraulic power steering? What about the pump?

My idea would be to check trouble codes, see if it leads, anywhere. Some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free. I just don't know if they will check manufacturer specific codes? The codes in question are c codes.
Also, if the steering wheel is turned to max position for too long, the power steering control module will go into protective mode. It will reduce the current to power steering motor to keep it from overheating. There will be less power assist.
That's all I know at the moment.
