1979 camaro z28 question?

Hey everyone i was recently looking into buying a 79 z28 with 3000 miles on the 383 motor it was a stock 350 but built up to a 383 and i was wondering if you guys think it would be better to keep the 383 or put in a 450 or something like that? i want a lot of hp but want it to be streetable also if you guys have any commenst please help me out.

If you want it streetable keep the stroker, as long is it is not overheating.

A bigblock 454 will be harder to keep cool, and is more expensive to work on.

The 383 is an excellent high winding motor designed for maximum torque and hp at high rpms.

except... I'm not sure the 383 is the greatest RPM motor in the world.

My motor runs peaks out at 425hp @ 5500rpm, 440ft-lbs @ 4500rpm...

I'd say a destroked 400 SBC, with a 350 Crank to make a 377ci. Big Bore, small stroke... high revs. :bigthumb:

But nothing wrong a 383, lots of grunt for the money.

Or, try this set-up---
400 block (GM #24502600 with 4.125" bore)
307/327 crank (3.25" stroke - Callies, Lunati, Cola, or Scat)
6.25" rods (many makers)
Pistons with 1.15 or 1.25" compression height in your choice of compression ratio (I can't remember the exact height)
Fast-Burn, AFR 195's, or Edelbrock 170 E-tec heads
With a GM HOT cam package this will make 480-495 hp.
