b18a and b18b whats the difference really need to know!!

Hey whats up i got a b18 head im not sure if its a or b but i need a block but i dunno if getting a A block or a B block matters im swapping to the b18a/b motor into my civic becuase my greddy turbo kit will bolt right up to it. Ive found a b18a block for really cheap off a auto trany teg its a long block to if it helps i honestly dont know the difference n e help and info is greatly apreciated

Up till 92 the B18A was OBD 0, after that the difference is the tranny. The blocks are the same.

nah, he needs to know if his head matters if its A or B, sorry i cant help you out, what year did you pull the motor from?

Head, block, doesn't matter, they are the same. The changes were the OBD in 92 and the tranny in 94, other than that they are the same. The latter as a whole produce 2 hp more, due more than likely to a better ECU, since they displaced the same and they ran the same compression.

i have no idea what year its from i got the head from a local shop for 100 bucks its the full head with distributor and it was just to good to pass up

Whatever you're planning on doing wih the head, you need to make sure that the OBD electronics match the car it is going into.injectors, distributor, etc...

kool kool yeah the head came with the distributor and i think i might even have a honda tech put the motor in. what with work best or what do i have to use obd 1 or obd0?

I'm assuming you're working with a 98 civic, as in your profile thing. You need to use OBD II parts, from a 96-98.

ok so i would use my obd2 ecu with the b18 motor right and what else or shoud i already have n e thing or n e thing i need to keep from the other motor.. and also what do i need with the block the guy said it comes with Oil Breather tank and the thermostat housing are the only extra items on the block itself. .......... Is that going to be a problem or are all the other parts easily found on ebay or other places he said it doesnt come with a oild pan either.

just a question but how come you are gonna buy a long block if you already have a head.
I dont nkow for sure but you can probably use your harness, maybe have to customize a few things, your ECU, maybe your injectors if the head you got is old enough to where they run off diufferent impedences or some electrical word like that. not sure when it changed tho. and depending on the MAP sensor type, you might have to use your TB if it fits, I had to do that but mine was both D series engines, but the manifolds were completely different but it still worked.

Well I found a guy selling a longblock for incredibly cheap i mean like pocket change cheap and i told him to just keep the head and sell that to and i'd give him the same price.

I wanted to confirm on this thread for my own reference, the B18 in the 91 tegs is OBD0... correct? what generation of teg does the 91 fit in to? and is the OBD0 B18 a b18B or a b18A?
