tamiya models

hi i have never had a tamiya model car. i was wondering do they come with the engines? if not thier a waste of my time.

A few do but most are curbside models (no engine)

depends on the kit. Most of race cars and some of the street cars do.

just because there is'nt a engine its a waste of your time? right.

If they do come with an engine, Tamiya will boast about it. Before purchasing, look at the list of features on the box. If it says, "Realistic chassis undersurface" it is curbside (no engine), but if it says "Complete engine detail" it has an engine.

Or, ask about a kit here and we'll tell you (probably) whether it has an engine or not.

do you know if there are any supras that tamiya makes with the engine, or an rx-7?

Their Supra has an engine.

They make 2 road-going RX-7s. The Efini RX-7 is Curbside, but the RX-7 R1 has full engine detail. Make sure you get the R1!!!!

supra=yes
Rx-7=no

heres a llist of cars that i knwo off the top of my head that have engine detail

Tamiya Supra
Tamiya R32 GTR
Tamiya Mazda RX-7 R1
Tamiya 300 ZX both the convertible and Twin turbo versions
Tamiya Enzo Ferrari
Tamiya R 390 GT1
Tamiya Toyota GT1?

i know for a fact that all of those kits have an engine but im not sure about the TOyota GT1

The DTM cars come with engines apart from the new OPEL.
These make a nice kit to build

even though some tamiya kits have no engines, i still think they are a joy to build.

Is Tamiya that much better than other kits to sacrifice the engine? I'm building an AMT and a Revell kit right now, both have engines. The AMT has full engine detail and the Revell has some. I haven't tried a Tamiya kit, and I've heard good things about them, but are they that much better without the engines?
Maybe its just a thing about me to wants to have an engine in a model.

okay, the only way we can possibly know how much better a Tamiya model is to buy one. It is worth, even if there is no engine. I have yet to see someone built a Tamiya coming from you point of view that did'nt say that they did'nt mind the engine,,,,,because the kits are a joy to built. the result comes out great.

IIRC, no Tamiya EVO kits has engine detail. Again, IIRC, the only Mitsubishi w/ engine detail is one of the Pajero kits...

Note about the Supras: kit # 24123 Toyota Supra does have the engine, while the two GT Supras (Denso Sard and Tom's Castrol) do not have engine detail.

I think most the the Tamiya Ferraris have engine detail... :biggrin:

jay, please contact Alex, the owner of the site Italian Horses and let him know which model is Incorrect. he is always asking for people to let him know which models have engines and which dont so please if you see any mistakes on that list let us and him know.
