Beautiful, Beautiful build Ricrosar!!! Do you mind if I ask, could you post more info on the build IE:the companies through which you purchased/ or whom produced the aftermarket items on the vehicle that weren't included in the kit? I can't imagine the difficulty of the decals installation. Did you use Micro sol/set? I have Tamiya's R/C version of this and have always wanted to build the model version. I love this and the PIAA variation.

Thanks sohchx, glad you like it. Well I got the kit from ebay. Switches, buttons and harness hardware are from hobby design, belt material is ribbon available from crafts stores, carbon decals are from sms. Honda logos are from crazy modeler. You can find and buy most details online. For decal conforming I use heat, After placement I take a wet/moist cotton ball and touch a hot iron with it, after it sizzles a bit, carefully touch the decal and it will start to conform. After they dry a bit a apply some decal solution and dry with a blower. I mostly use walters solvaset and mr mark softer from mr hobby. Both are much stronger than microsol so use with care. Hope this can help and good luck with the project. If I you need anything you can leave me a message, i"ll be glad to try to help.

PS: Most important, be patient and don't rush things!!!

I am aware of all manufacturers that you mentioned, except for SMS. Do those letters stand for the companies name in short? I may already no whom you are speaking of, I just don't call them SMS. If solvaset is stronger than micro set as you say I don't want to try it, lol. I have been having a hard time with micro set lately. When I lay down the decals the set is so fast that I have almost no time to reposition the decal if needed so the decal ends up stuck almost as soon as I apply. I am contemplating stopping useage of it altogether.

Hi sohchx, sms is short for scale motorsports sorry. About decal solvents, you have to be sure the decal is in its final place, then you start applying microsol. Once applied don't touch the decal or you will destroy it. Only blow dry to speed up the process. That's why I heat it first with the warm cotton to get it to its preliminary position, then the solution will make it look like it is painted on. Anyways I'm assuming you have some previous experience with decals, if not I would suggest you experiment with something easier as this kit can be a PITA if not. Let me Know.

Ahhhhh that SMS, I know them. My process is that I apply micro set to the area that I plan to decal, lay the decal down, then apply more to the surface of the decal. After that dries for a minute or so I then apply micro sol. The process works great outside of the issue I mentioned. I do have previous experience with decals, 26 years worth but have just recently started using micro set/sol in the past 5-6 months. I did see the Porsche and it too is a gorgeous build. I am a Porschephile at heart so that kit will be added to my collection at some point.

Hi sohchx, a lot of experience there, cool! To be honest I don't use setting solutions anymore, I use just water. What I found is that they start to soften the decal as soon as you place it in the model so it becomes too fragile to manipulate. This is even worse with mr. mark setter from mr. hobby. Also some decals are more fragile than others. Another factor is age, so they become brittle. As for micro sol, Ive found some thicker decals that laugh at it but they surrender to solvaset or mr mark softer. You can always dilute them with water a bit. As a I told you before, my technique is: liberally wet the placement area, place decal adjust position, take bubbles out with a soft brush, depending on how many contours, I apply some heat with a cotton, have a beer, let dry a few minutes then apply the solvent then blower. Try the heat, believe me sometimes I don't even need solvent to make them conform.

I thought the same when i saw your name, yes that is me :)

Also, my technique for decals is simply a dab of water where im placing the decal and then microsol over top.. It seems to work pretty well so far. The only thing i havent figured out is how people handle and place the ultra small decals, such as steering wheel emblems, wheel stickers etc.. Execellent job on the kit ricrosar, this will definitely be one of my future kits when i find a decent deal on one.

Wow small world!!! Its funny that we both have the same hobbies. You are into r/c also aren't you? For the smaller decals I do them the same as I do the large. I use a toothpick to remove the decal from the back while at the same time sliding it into place off of the paper, then I dab it with micro sol.

Stunning build! I have one of these lurking in my to-do pile, so I know those decals must have been a real pain - congratulations to you!
