Hi all. Wanted to share something here and see what opinions I could gather.
My 1999 GMC Sierra SLE Z71 5.3L hasn't had working ABS for at least 4 years now. I have never been bothered by this, as I learned to drive on the IA/MN state line with vehicles that never had ABS. So it's not an issue. However, the orange ABS light on the dash is somewhat annoying at times. Saturday night, i was under the truck, replacing the fuel filter, and something caught my eye. The red wire on the plug that goes into what I believe is the ABS hydraulic unit, looks to have rubbed on the frame and broke. I am guessing as soon as the bare wire hit the frame it shorted and blew the wire in two. I would assume this is the reason my ABS doesn't work. If I splice the wire back together again, Any thoughts on the outcome? Does anyone think that it would work again? I know that I will never pay $1000+ for a new unit as I am completely comfortable driving it without ABS, but I'm wondering if just a patch could do the trick. I have attached a photo, pay no attention to the very rusty frame! Any thoughts are appreciated....
Thanks.

Fix it, check the fuses what can you loose?

Finally got around to working on this. I was able to splice the wire back together. That in itself was a total challenge with little to no room to work. I checked the 60 amp fuse under the hood and the little 10amp in the little fuse block inside and both were good. Started the truck up, and much to my surprise, the ABS light turned off for the first time in 3-4 years!!!
So I guess that was the problem!
