High milage oil

I got a '99 Ford Ranger 4.0L with 162K miles. I've always used 5W-30 oil however would it be beneficial to shift to a 10W-30 or one of those high mileage oil? and what really is high mileage oil different from standard. I live in San Diego, CA and seldom do I make long trips.
