Need Help! Something has fallen off (pics attached)

Nissan Micra year 1999- (had for 2 months) driving fine then heard a noise i've not heard before when using accelerator (I think). parked and looked underneath - see pics. any info/advice would be much appreciated! car novice

My first guess is the exhaust pipe has rusted apart. If that's what it is, I'm sure your car has gotten much louder than it was.

My other guess is that a trailing arm broke. You will notice handling problems and noise over bumps if that's the case.

The picture is very small/low resolution, so its hard to tell what that is. A larger/higher resolution photo with better lighting would help.

Looks like part of the exhaust heat shield, may be able to clamp it back on. If not have a exhaust shop look at it. If it's not in a critical area, like near a fuel line or fuel tank, remove the hanging piece and drive it.

I agree that it appears to be a heat shield for the exhaust. A couple of large hose clamps, one forward and one aft, should work quite well to put that back in place.
