i need help with my 66 impala

i have a 66 impala with a 250 straight six.i have bought a new carb coil and condenser changed the plugs but still as soon as i turn the key it starts for a split second and immediatly dies ive been racking my brain for weeks about this please help":confused:

I think these cars have power, supplied thru a resistor wire, or a ballast block, from the ignition switch, to the + side of the coil.
When the ignition switch is in the "start" position, the power is switched to battery voltage- 12 volts.
When the engine is running, the ignition switch is in the "on" position, and power to the coil is shifted to the resistor wire, which reduces the voltage to the coil to 9 volts to avoid points pitting.
Try temporarily running 12 volts direct to the coil.
If the engines does run, you need to replace the resistor wire or a ballast block.

Here's a schematic from a Corvair. Notice the 12V is off the starter solinoid.

thanks changed the resistor,still didnt solve the problem.after screwing around with electrical crap for two hours turned out all my problem was in the ignition switch.
