I was trying to set my points by getting to a high point on the distributor. I using the relay to spin the distributor. After about three times when I went to start the truck it would just click?
I checked connections all good. I went and bought new relay due to age thinking that would fix it. Same results. I verified all connections before and after install.
Could my starter have died? I have been trying to set these points for a couple of weeks and have been working on this relay to set my high point to set my points. I thought I killed the relay, could I have shot the starter?
Please help I drive this truck daily!

Most common thing to check is loose wire. Follow the ground to the block. Unbolt it there, clean the connection and inspect that it isn't corroded then replace. Do the same for the wire from the relay down to the starter. Make sure oil hasn't been leaking to around the starter between it and the bell housing, interfering with that ground circuit completion. How's the battery? It may have lost its charge or gone bad and won't hold a charge anymore.

Looks like bad starter wire! oily around entire starter lightly. Wires were frayed on bottom. Black tape just to test and started right up BUT would not turn off. I assume same issue just need to get a new cable.
Thanks!:p

What post on the relay does the ignition wire go on ? I am going to get a new starter wire but when I taped up and put the old starter wire to test on the truck tried to start continuously. I had forgot to pull the ground. When I jumped up to turn it off the keys were not in the ignition and when I put the keys in it would not cut the truck off.
I went out later to take the cable off to find it was physically hot so I assume the relay was open and the starter was zapping the battery. The battery is now dead and I have taken off the starter cable to be bought.
I assume the red wire coming from the firewall is with a fuse in the line is the ignition wire. Could it be on the wrong post and be causing the relay to stay open?
Starter wire was the right call, just need to get relay straight I think?
Thanks,
Joe

Got battery charged. left side hot to ign. point on relay is only showing .23. I did the same thing from the positive point on the battery to the ignition point still gave the same reading. Should this not have caused the truck to turn over??
Thanks for the help.
