Too far? Nah.... I could be there in...hmmm with 70hp...in 3 weeks! I'll have to push it up the rocky mtns! hence the need for multi port!!:bloated:

I'm in Boynton Beach, probably about 3-3.5 away from Tampa. I'll be there a few times this summer though. My cuz lives there.

Let me know when you head that way... I got to Tampa/St. Pete every weekend with some friends of mine (races).

Don't STD hatches have a restrictor plate in the intake which limits them to 70 HP? If I remember correctly, you can remove it to get 92 HP...still not MPFI, but better.

Will do VelocityCivic, I'll let you know the next time I go up there. Hey, where do you get parts down here? Looking for someplace lose to cut on shipping costs...
Oh and what is this about the restrictor plate? Is it hard to remove it? Will it really bump up the hp bit?? Anyone out there ever tried this?

Yeah, I have done it. It works a little. Better than it in place though. Take off the 4 philips screws that are holding your DPI plate on. Once that is off, you will see a little brass plate covering most of the hole that the air goes into. Remove that with the one philips screw that is holding it in and your done. Test drive it after your done to see if YOU notice a differance. If you reallt want, you can also remove that little screen dome lookin thing over that little flap in the DPI "box".

Great, I will have to do that this weekend when I have a little time. Any drawbacks to this?

None that I have found. My friend did it to his 91 4 door a while ago (before he sold it) and he said that it slowed him down.

STD's and DX's I think. Any Civic with the dual point setup.

I know there are so many sides to this...but you think doing this and also adding a generic aftermarket intake would give me a little more power as well? Geez, I'd be happy with 3 hp!!

the restrictor plate wont give you a very big gain, but when removed, u wil feel a better throttle response, depending on who you ask

Correct me if i'm wrong...but I thought the only difference between the STD engine and the DX / LX engine was the restrictor plate. Yes, they all have DPFI - but isn't the plate the only reason the STD is 70 HP instead of 92?
Hell, if its not, I'm gunna gut my DPFI and get some power!

Hey Turb Civic, I'm about 2.5 hours from Daytona. My folks live in Palm Coast. Know any good places up there that can install springs and shocks on my STD??

there are more differnces in the STD and DX. for one, the STD is a differnt block, meaning that is probably has slighlty different pistons. And also, in addition to the resitrictor plate, the throttle body itself is different. on the DX, thre is the throttle plate and then under that, there is another restrictor plate. on the DX, it opens as a normal throttle plate, but on the STD it only opens about halfway, further restricting airflow.
Also, with the STD, it uses a PM9 ECU and the DX uses a PM5, which is geared more towards the 92hp engine instead of the STD's 70.
swap ecu
remove restrictor plate
remove throttle body restrictor plate
= homemade DX

Hey Stali08, how much gain are you getting from the Short Ram?
Speaking of which, do the eBay no-name brand intakes any good?

its not too much of a gain maybe like 5hp thats about it, if that. Um the company I got mine from they just custom made the pipe, and put on a K&N Intake. When I go to ask about an exhaust system I wanna ask them how much it would be for a custom CAI.

yes ... they do. Noticed more of a difference with this on than I did with my exhaust and high flow cat

Yeah, the SI's all have MPFI.
All Honda fuel injection is MPFI except the 88-91 STD, DX, and LX's.

I have a 1991 Civic Wagon, with the dpfi d15 engine, I think it is rated at 92 hp... will mine still have the restrictor plates? and if a remove them, would I expect a hp gain? or even any throttle response? This car has absolutely not throttle respoense at all, I mash the gas and it revs to about 3-4, but in my CRX, if i even lightly touch the gas it goes that high i have the ECU from a 1988 CRX Si, would this ecu work on the dpfi or would i have to swap over the entire intake setup?

Just removed mine tonight. I guess there is a little gain (I think I was getting my hopes up too high) But nothing that will snap your neck. Can't hurt it right? Maybe I'll jam one of those little tornado turbine things they sell in the "as seen in TV" store in there and gain another 20-30hp... people actually bought those things!!!:loser:

so are u saying if i take off the copper box in my dx thats alrdy whips preety well for only 70 hp then i will get 92 and my car would fuckin fly?
jackacc
06-10-2003, 10:50 PM
I wouldn't say fly...but if you close your eyes and think real hard...you might think you feel 2-3 more horses...or maybe mice.... didn't hurt anything.... I don't know why it is there in the 1st place.... ??
