Stock Delco swap in 98 S10 issue....

ok...so my dad has a 98 GMC Sonoma...and the truck came with just a AM/FM delco...this spring...I found a stock delco out of a 2000 s10 that has AM/FM -CD player...I put it in and it worked great EXCEPT...when you put a cd into it..it sits for about 10 seconds..then shows ERR...
I thought it was the stereo itself...until I found another one on ebay...same delco with the AM/FM-cd player. I swapped it out and got the same code when I put the cd in...

anybody have an idea what's wrong?

From what I'm finding, the radio from the 2000 uses an amp to control the CD player operation. If your base radio didn't come with an amp, that may be the problem. Not sure if you can just "plug in" a amp and go because there may not be a harness for it.

has anyone else run into this? or know about the amp or even have one I could buy to try??
