New Camry

Let me start by saying that this is the first new car since 1968 and all previous cars were American. I have followed the reliability of Toyota for sometime now, is there anything that I should be aware of that would make me feel as if I made an error in my judgement of buying a Toyota,all the others were v6s & v8s this is a four and I was very impressed with the power and smoothness.I have always thought of reliability over gas mileage. Thank's for any input.

Follow Toyota's recommended maintenance schedule. I would strongly recommend that you use synthetic motor oil. For preventive maintenance, I would change the A/F Ratio and HO2 sensors every 100k miles. Keep the wheel wells and car bottom well rinsed in winter to keep salt corrosion to a minimum.

The car may outlive you.

Thanks Brian,so far real good,took a couple of trips and the only draw back is the blind spots when on the highway but its probably due to the the many air bags.

FWIW, there are conflicting recommendations on what needs to be done during the first few miles on the engine.

Oldschool thought is that breaking-in is best accomplished by treating the engine with kid gloves.

Modern thinking is that no break-in period is needed.

Some who manufacturer race-ready engines think that really blasting an engine with low miles on it will help the cylinder wall cross-hatching seat and thus seal the rings better, and give better compression and better engine performance with no deleterious effect on engine life or reliability. They say that delaying this treatment until after the normal break-in period has very little benefit since the cylinder wall cross-hatching has been smoothed out to the point than no more ring break-in is possible.
