Alright guys, I need your help. A buddy of mine has a 97' Accord LX. He has all kinds of boltons and I am trying to convince him to through a turbo on it. Can anyone give me some idea's on who makes a good turbo for this motor, and what kind of output it could have? Oh yeah, it's an auto, problems with this?

i know that everyone has differing opinions on turboing the accord engines, but i would recommend getting an h22a. it'll have better street drivability, have less problems, and cost the same, if not less.

I've never heard of a turbo kit for a F series.

An H22 swap is the best thing to do.

damn. That's going to be out of his price range. By the way, the motor is a F22B2.

Whats his price range?

Why in the hell did he get an auto? Even worse, mod it? :loser:

I have a 96 Accord and have asked the same question before. Most of the guys in the room who have already responded to you, know their shit. I've been told the same thing over and over... I was considering Turboing my F22a (VTEC) but was shot down for numerous reasons as well. First of all the cost factor! If you are going to build your own, that's a little different I would suppose.. but kits like the FMAX kit for your boyz Accord goes for $3400!!!! That is $3400 to put in your motor which I guarantee has at LEAST 70k miles on it... and at the recommended psi you get what about 80hp to the flywheel! And then take the chance of blowing your motor due to detonation and starting from square one. Second, the F22B which is non-vtec came with 135hp stock and the F22a (VTEC) came with 145hp stock. You can buy the JDM H22a engine like these guys were saying and start off with a DOHC instead of a SOHC and up to 65hp more to the wheels at barebone for about $1800-2400!!! Not only that, but those engines will have anywhere from 30k-40k miles on them due to japanese emissions. Math makes reasons!! From what I have learned neither engine can handle more then 8psi on stock internals... but hell I'm gonna turbo my H22a when I get it in May. Rather start off with a stronger motor. And the beauty of all that is... if you did blow up your motor for any godforsaken reason... you can go in your garage and slap the old F22 in:biggrin: Go with the H22a... our motors are reliable... but don't have the potential of a DOHC.

See guys... I do learn shit..... (I think!?!?!:frown: )

Here's some advice for you. I agree with the motor swap this time, mainly because the H22 motors are cheaper then a GSR or B16a2+. I own a Civic coupe, didn't want to go with a swap because of the prices (2600+ for B series) and mounts for my car to drop an H series would be 500+ and Im lazy.

So I went turbo.

Now on to the advice part. Buy a bare H22 block, and build up from there bit by bit. Depending on HOW deep you want to get into it, and how much you want to spend. Im not familiar with swaps as much as I am FI. PM me and I can certainly help you find the needed information.

A good motor mall: http://www.hmotorsonline.com
If I were to buy a swap, I'd by it from there. Ive heard many many great things about them, and only one bad incident, in which a B20 motor was purchased, and the block riped apart from the stress at the upper driver side motor mount. Fortunatly they replaced it with an H22 motor which now runs 13's in a 97 coupe.

Thanks a lot guys. I think I'll leave it at that then, let my buddy know what you guys said, and tell him to get some damn cash together.
