I have a 2000 Pontiac grand prix se with the 3.8 engine.....the problem...the heater and air conditioner will only work on 1 and 4 and 5...I have a manual switch.........replaced the blower motor resistor with no success......did notice that the wire from the blower motor was getting hot to the touch......would that signal a bad blower motor ???? checked the fuses and they were fine......also the blower motor will run and then shuts off and then comes back on after a few seconds......any help would be appreciated............

Remove the harness to the motor......check the contacts in the harness connector and in the motor housing.....look for loosened, black contacts....
Attach a test light to the harness connector....starting with the lowest speed, does the light get progressively brighter with each increase in speed?
Or it doesn't light on 2 and 3?

Just disconnect the harness going to the resistor block......should be 5 wires representing the 5 speeds.......with key on, put lower speed on 1......with a test light attached to ground, probe each wire in the harness...one of them should light(mark down wire color and speed position).....move blower switch to 2, and repeat....do the same for all 5 speeds.....
Chances are, you will not get the test light to light on position 2 and 3.....you will have to check the continuity of both wires back to the HVAC control head......if the wires are ok, then you need a new blower switch......don't know if the part is available, or if you have to get a whole control head....
