Braking question

It seems as if the braking system is under engineered for its weight. Perhaps switching to premium pads may increase stopping performance? Any thoughts

Premium pads couldn't hurt but may not help much either. Premium pads are helpful in stopping heat fading and some produce less brake dust.

The "premium" pads probably won't perform any better than OEM pads as the OEM pads are top shelf quality anyways. The Equinox/Torrent switched from rear drum to rear disc brakes in 2007.
