several threads asking about making molds for casting the first time, here is a good article, written by Adam Savage (of Mythbusters), with several good tricks and tips

here's another tip, given to me by a friend in the SFX industry:
for non-toxic clean up of RTV silicons, use a citrus based cleaner, or better distilled citrus like Lemonene! ;)
