[911 Tribute] Two rare birds - 964 RS America & C4 Turbolook

Good evening everybody. Michael is my dear name, some kind of nutter from good ole Germany...

...well, researching some stuff on the 964 took me here, so I when I saw the announcement of the 911 tribute, I thought I could just post what I'm working on. ;)

Now, I got me one of these:

Dirt cheap at 10€, and a useful base for a widebody 964. At a slightly higher price tag, I got this one:

So the idea is to swap some parts between these kits to create two of the less common variants of the 911 line. The Fujimi kit will receive a modified rear wing of the Turbo and thus turned into a RS America (http://www.rsamerica.net/whatis.htm), a lightweight version of the Carrera 2 for the US market. Admittetly 130 kg heavier than a Euro RS, but with an eyecatching whale tail spoiler as compensation.
The Italeri kit on the other hand will receive the letterbox type movable wing from the Fujimi kit (and a lenghty filling/sanding session) to turn it into a turbolook Carrera 4. Originally intended as an exclusive feature for the limited edition 30th anniversary model (http://jubi.pocg.de/pages/en/the-jubi.php) in 1993, but while the idea of the widebody appealed the potential customers, its colour combination (viola metallic with rubicon grey interior) was not to everyones taste, so the wide body option found its way into the regular offer. My original plan was indeed to build a 'Jubi', but as I got stuck on some details, I decided to move on to a more 'regular' model... :)

Thanks for looking, stay tuned!

cool idea. The main negative issue with italeri/revell turbo is about the wheels. They are ugly, small and after some years start disintegrate. the bodyshell is not so bad.

Fujimi is a decent kit, quite simple, just a little smaller in dimension. they are very good bases for any modelling project. ;)

Thank you, once again. Phil! :)

You're sure right about those wheels and tires! I discarded them straight and replaced them with a nice set of Aoshima wheels I still had lying around. Their dimensions are also closer to factory specs than the Italeri wheels. Much better: :)

Another thing that needs to be fixed with the Italerie kit is the somewhat high stance of the whole thing. One could safely go rallying with that one! A reference to the 959 perhaps, which did the groundwork for the 4WD of the C4 and has some Paris - Dakar glory ;) Two millimetres at the front and three at the rear is probably not overdone. Gotta knock down that bi... lady!

This weekends Nürburgring 15h ( :D ) offered the right background noise for the engine hood of the C4. I started with this one:

...and with some plastic sheet, square profile, Apoxie Scupt and Mr. Surfacer 500 later, we are here:

A short rehearsal with the Fujimi rear wing looks promising:

Next is a layer of primer and most likely some more sanding. Also I'm not sure yet whether I am going to detail the engine bay or not...

Thanks for looking! :)

Small update.

Good news:

Way better than before. Will need some fine tuning (probably a bit to low on the front, and a bit uneven left and right).

Not so good news: I lost the steering rod to the ever-hungry carpet monster. Oh well, nothing some tubing and wire won't solve.

Probably ugly news: the Fujimi body is terribly warped and something caused a large bend in left A-pillar. Not sure if I am able to fix that. Gotta see what I can do about this...:(

It's summer time. Leave the 1:24 car inside a 1:1 car for a couple hours. I have heard of people making a little jig to hold the body flat and the heat does the hard work.
