Like many others on this forum, I am working in a Misfire Issue on my 01 5.4. Am down to the point where I want to change all the Coil Packs to get rid of the occasional miss at low RPM's under load. (no Codes and new Motorcraft Plugs).

Looking for opinions on whether I should try aftermarket COP's to save some $$. Would rather not have to spend $400 to get Motorcraft parts if the aftermarket stuff is as good or better. All ideas will be appreciated

I'm no expert but I have had as many as three Ford vans running at a time in my business. I have had to replace coil packs often. Every time it was an O.E. coilpack (motorcraft) that needed replacing. More than one mechanic has told me that Motorcraft was the only brand worth buying but they are not cheap as you have noted. Two of the defective packs I had to replace had only 70,000 mi. on them. I have not have any of the aftermarket packs fail but none of the new ones have been on the vans more than 40,000 mi. I bought my last set at rockauto and they are manufactured by United Ignition Wire and cost around $20.00 each. That is less than half of Motorcraft. I cannot say they will last as long or longer than Motorcraft but so far, they have gone 40,000 mi.+ with no failures at half the cost.

I have 6 of these 5.4's in my fleet, and I've replaced them all with Autozone COP's. They haven't given me any issues in the 4 years I've replaced them. Besides, they have a lifetime warranty...

Guess I was late on seeing this one but I happen to have 9 brand new, in sealed packages, Motorcraft DG-508 coils I need to get rid of. I have no immediate use for them and was thinking of somewhere around the same price of those aftermarket coils. I'm only mentioning this because I saw this thread and I love you guys so much. Otherwise someone on Craigslist is gonna get a sweet deal!

Hey everyone. I know its been a while, but I thought I'd provide an update on the success with my COP issue. I ended up putting all aftermarket COPs in my truck from RCP. Think I paid about $75 for all 8 of them, and they have been working flawlessly since I installed them in about May last year. So, I took a chance, and it worked out. Based in my experience, I see no reason to get the fancy Ford OEM COP's

$75 for all 8? What is RCP? Sounds like a place to check out.
