2004 Saturn Ion Shifting into Neutral

Our dealership sold a 2004 Saturn Ion-3 Quad Coupe that had some transmission work done prior to our purchasing it. The new owner states that when he turns on the A/C while driving, the vehicle shifts into neutral. Any ideas?
