2003 Trailblazer ignition key issue

This past winter my daughter was coming home when her Trailblazer would not shift gears. When she got home she parked it and used her other car for the rest of the winter. Then this spring she pulled the Trailblazer outside and parked it. A couple weeks later she went out to move it and the key would not turn.

I put a new battery in but still can't get the key to turn. It seems to be locked in the OFF position. Is there a trick to get it to move again? Thanks.

Try rotating the steering wheel left and right as you turn the key.....

That didn't work. I tried moving the gear shifter also, but nothing.

Key should turn with the battery disconnected.....bad key? Have another to try?

I'll give that a go. I'll get back either way. Thanks.

Now that's strange. My key used to work and now I can't even get it to go in all the way. Both keys are identical. Needs a new ignition switch?

Sounds like the lock cylinder is broken.

I agree....if you can't even get the key in.....it's something to do with the cylinder......remember, the lock cylinder is not your ignition switch.....though a lot of people confuse them....

I would spray some lube in it first.

I thought lock cylinders were a common problem on Trailblazers and Envoys.

Seems I read a thread about them not taking kindly to a heavy ring of keys.
