Fuel Gauge

Recently the fuel gauge stopped working. Its stuck at full and the last time I drove it I remember leaving the tank full. What causes a the fuel needle to get stuck? Is there anything I can do to see if its broken or why its stuck? Does this mean a fuse has blown and if not, is this repairable?

Thanks in advance.

Usually an open circuit causes this find the wire to the tank unit, peel back some insulation and ground the wire, see if the dash gage moves and post back.

Where should I look for the wire? Should I disconnect the battery? What should the wire be grounded to?

Find the wire going to the tank, start looking above the tank, when accessible strip back some insulation, hook a wire to it maybe a piece of wire with alligator clips on the end, ground that wire anywhere to the frame or body, make sure the metal is clean, leave the battery connected, turn the key on see what the dash gage does.

Do I have to drop the fuel tank to get to the wire or can I connect to the wire somewhere from the engine?

You have to get under the car and look for the wire going to the tank, should be easy to find, maybe get help here if you are uncertain about how to go about this.
