I was wondering how you tell if a cv joint is bad enough to where it desperately needs to be replaced. Here's what I'm experiencing: steering wheel shakes, (new wheels and tires - still shakes) and shakes violently while slowing down, and second I can hear ticking whenever I turn right. I do not believe there is any ticking when I turn left, but I could be mistaken. Should I replace just one or get them both out of the way? Thanks for the help guys.

inspect them. more than likely, the right side inner or outer CV joint boot will be torn and leaking grease. Also, usually its cheaper or the same price to get a whole new half shaft.

and yes, if its ticking while turning, it needs to be changed.
