Coolant getting into oil somewhere?

Was going to do an oil change and noticed where my coolant has been disappearing to once I pulled the filler cap off. Funny thing is there is no indication of anything on the dipstick...where to start looking for the leaks?

Pressure test
Compression test
Leak down test.

argh...I might just take it in to a few places for some quotes, for between time available to do repairs, not having all those various testing tools etc, would like to save cash by doing things myself and love having the excuse to buy tools, but gets tough facing the financial officer of the household at the end of the day....lol.

most likely a head gasket. Have you noticed truck running rough or any white smoke in your exhaust?

Most auto parts stores have a "loan a tool". You just put down a deposit and get it back when you return the tool.

Yep, last few times of starting up after a few days of sitting (truck sits in yard at work during week while I'm out of town), great billow of white fog when first accelerate out of the yard...co-workers get a kick out of it! It's a rough time for the old girl right now, between the cloud of smoke when taking off, the noise of a muffler that needs replacing (in no small part from the vapour in the exhaust no doubt), and then when you let off the gas coming up to a stop sign, the rear end growling for the need of an overhaul of the pinion seal and bearings and the brakes need attention for they shudder when applying at speed (still seem to work fine tho)...sigh, yeah, kinda boggling...lol, but one thing at a time as money becomes available. The joys of getting a truck from the boss for a cup of coffee, so can justify dropping money into it, for its a decent truck..4x4 works good, body needs a little attention in few spots but nothing major.
One thing I am on the fence about as far as the head gasket issue, is that since the motor has almost 300,000 km on it and has been ran too hot pulling trailers when it used to be the company truck, I am debating whether or not to just swap out the motor with one from the scrap yard. One place I called has one for about $1500 and it has 99,000 km on it. Guy said could pick up the motor and rear end for $2500, since I mentioned my rear end needs to be rebuilt as well. It's a gamble since you don't know how good the replacement parts are but they would sure have alot less mileage on them, that's for sure! I have to do something soon though

Is there a special attachment to do a pressure test on this rad, for its the plastic filler bottle that has the actual cap and not a normal rad cap?

They do make an adapter for the overflow tank. If you can't find one, I know guys who have taken an old coolant tank cap. Drill a hole to fit a schrader valve and used a bicycle pump. You are not looking for alot of pressure. Most is 10-15psi.

I put a can of the head gasket leak stop stuff into the system and it seems to have taken care of my issues for the time being anyways. No more loss of coolant, or white steam out the tailpipe.

:runaround: I like that icon. Anyways, I also had a bad head leak, I cant say what would be the best route for you, Most likly replacing engine with salvage is what I would do. But, if you want to get a few more thousand miles-up to 100k or more out of it, I recommend going to KW block sealer, in the orange poptop metal can. Costs 8 bux. Drain out all coolant, maybe even want to flush with a flush agent. Use distilled water, and KW block sealer. Instead of running for 30 mins, run in engine for 500+ miles. You will not have boil over or freeze protection, so keep that in mind when idling. Flush again after 500 miles, use distilled water and your choice of coolant. Should seal it up. Worked on my car and many others. It is a use at your own risk thing, but a head gasket problem pretty much sentences an engine to death anyway. So... This is wortha shot.
I got this solution from myhonestmechanic dot com. It really does work, I can attest to it.
Got over 15000 miles on mine already.
