Pre-crash system

Does the pre-crash safety-system has a real contribution to reduce the speed and the damage of a collision or to avoid it?

Well, yeah. The car accident prevention systems take a car that is travelling 60 mph toward a stopped car and reduces the speed to somewhere around 40 or 30 mph before the moving car hits the stopped car. Basically, you should search "Fifth Gear Crash Avoidance Test" on YouTube and see it actually working.

In greater detail, the new 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class fitted with the optional pre-safe system uses multiple infrared radars and a stereoscopic camera to "see" the road ahead and distinguish a hazard from just surrounding scenery. If a hazard is detected, such as a stopped car or a person in the road, and audible and visual warning (an icon in the instrument cluster and several beeps) is activated that warns you to apply the brake. If you still do nothing, then the icon flashes, more panicked beeps are activated, and the brakes pretension for emergency braking. If you STILL do nothing, then the car itself will apply the brakes, while flashing the brake lights to warn other drivers that you are undergoing emergency braking, and either eliminate or greatly reduce a crash. The system found on the Volvo XC60 has reduced the number of frontal crashes by around 25%, one in five frontal collisions were prevented.

I hope that I answered your question and helped you learn something new about cars. :-)
