Bad RPM?

I have a 2001 Pontiac grand prix GT. It has 169000 miles. It gets about 3500 RPM while going 65 and I feel it is too high. It also changes gears at 2.5 or 3 thousand RPM for every gear and thats at a regular acceleration. There are random times when the first gear changes at 2000 RPM and then stays under or at 1500. At those times the car feels like it accelerates more smoothly but this only lasts for a very brief amount of time. Any advice?

Sounds like the tranny's lock-up clutch isn't engaging. Might have a shop look at it.
