Help Needed for two scratch-build projects

Hi all,
Although I have been modelling for many years 35 at last count I have always had big dreams of scratch-building kits, but have always talked myself out of doing one!!! However I have recently really wanted to build/Scratch-build two of my favorite motorcycles, well one real one and one not so real but based on a real one, if you follow my drift.
The first one, the one based on a real bike is a Suzuki GSX1100 Katana engined XR69 Replica for which I will of course need to create a new frame & bodywork, the rest coming from my spares box.
The Second bike I want to scratch is the Carbon framed Suzuki RGB500 XR70 often referred to as the Heron Suzuki XR70 (Skoal Bandit Livery), which will take a load of scratch-building as I estimate that about 85% of the bike will need to be scratch-built using the Tamiya RGB as a base for the engine etc.
I really want to get started on these kits before I yet again talk myself out of building them so if you have any helpful hints and tips regarding making frames and/or bodywork for these projects or you can point me towards a site where I might get the information I need to complete these projects I would be extremely grateful.
I will when started try and do a photo build on this site in the hope that any knowledge I gain I can pass on for anyone else considering this type of project, but bare with me as progress is likely to be slow and often painful! So if you think you can help please feel free to do so.
TIA.
