I have a 96 Park Avenue with a firewall that is disintegrating from power steering fluid being thrown on it from a pump shaft seal leak. I have replaced the shaft seal. Now what can I repair the firewall with that has mostly broken and fallen off behind the power steering pump? I was thinking about using undercoating sprayed on the firewall unless someone has a better idea.:banghead:

If you are referring to the rubber/plastic HVAC box insulator- (as to what is deteriating)- they all do it- regardless of fluid spraying on it. They crumble apart- especially if you have to get in there to work on anything- there should be metal underneath it-- as a matter of fact, there were model years when the insulator was not used- just the metal was there- I usually just pull it off and consider it as good as a model year or two earlier...
I can't imagine a metal firewall rusting out with oil based fluid spraying on it....

There is not any metal under it, just yellow insulation.

My 94's simply melted from exhaust manifold heat on the bottom- the top seems good as new. No metal liner here either. Been like this 4+ years with no problems so I ain't gonna fix what ain't broke.
