Mitsubishi FTO Reliability

Hi, I'm currently in NZ and will be travelling around the country for a few months, so need a car, but don't know a great deal about them.

I've found a Mitsubishi FTO (1994) that's within my budget, big enough for what I need and not many miles on the clock for a 19 year old car (90,000). But will it cope with travelling all around New Zealand?? Or is it a stupid idea to get a car like that for something like this?

Any help would be massively appreciated!
