'02 Malibu Fans ? Revisited

My sons Malibu 3.1 V-6 started to overheat and the cooling fan will not come on unless you turn the a/c on.
He has replaced the intake gaskets, flushed the cooling system, replaced the thermostat and ECT sensor. The gaskets were bad so I told him to replace the thermostat and ECT sensor but still no cooling fan. This DID NOT happen until 3 months after this had all been replaced.
Both fans will come on with the a/c on but he prefers to find and fix the issue instead of rigging something or leaving the a/c on all the time.
My question is, Is there more tha one relay and more than one sensor?
He installed a new ECT sensor today and nothing.
