Auto-Lock Not Working...

Hi. I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty Sport. The passenger side auto-lock is not working. The lock motor seems to work because when the lock lever is pushed up or down or when I use the keyless lock/unlock, it makes a loud squealing noise (sounds like a goose :) ). When unlocked by the lever or keyless, is squeals and the lock knob will not come up, but it can be pulled up (or unlocked).

But when I lock it, using the lock lever or keyless, the lock knob will go down by itself (or lock).

When unlocked, the lock knob can be moved up and down.

I took the door panel off and oiled the part where the lock knob goes down and connects with another piece (that goes to the motor). This did not help. It also looks like that lock knob is slightly higher than the other 3 lock knobs when in the locked position.

Any guesses what might be the issue or how to troubleshoot? Would love to save some money and fix myself.

Thank you!!!

Thanks for the reply. Are you saying that the stripped gears are in the actuator and if that's replaced, it will be resolved?

You need to take help of a mechanic or local service center that will solve this problem for you. It is not possible to fix it so easily.
