Two questions and too much play on CV joint?

Hi guys,

I was checking under my car because the engine seems to move a bit even after both, engine and transmission, mounts have been replaced and upper mounts are OK. I tightened the holding nuts a bit more and seemed to solve the problem but I'll find out until tomorrow. Is there anything else I'm missing that could cause the engine to move more than usual?.

My second and more important question is if the play shown on the passenger side CV joint seems like too much. I tried at both, ground and lifted, positions and the play is the same. I also checked the driver side and it is different, I would say that one is normal.

Here are the two videos:

A mechanic replaced the boot on it 2 weeks ago and said it was fine, that I caught it on time and should have nothing to be concerned about. Now Im concerned... Also, is it me or the seal on the transmission seems to be missing, the doubt only came to me until I was uploading and watching the videos; maybe I'm being paranoid but I remember seeing a green outlined seal on it.

This might be the vibration that I've been chasing for a long time.

This one has received no maintenance, boots are OK.

What do you guys think?

In the event that I end up needing to replace it, what would be a good replacement?. Most stores around here sell rebuild kits, you buy either inner or outer CV and re-use your axle and the other joint. I think the only place that sells them as a whole unit is autozone but I don't know how good the quality is as I've read mixed reviews about it. I know that for most cases autozone's parts are a no-no situation...

My other option would be a junkyard unit and replace any torn boots along with new grease.

Thanks in advance,

Oscar.

I took another look at it today and realized that the seal is there, I must have freaked out last night and didn't see it in the video.

I noticed some clunk during the up and down motion, so I'm guess I need a new one. I have uploaded a new video here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VprE7FVbPA0

The louder clunk between 0:15 and 0:24 is the normal in and out movement play, the other clunk, audible along the entire video, is the abnormal up/down thing. I couldn't get a better sounding video with my cellphone, hopefully you'll be able to listen to it by turning up the volume. Again, the driver side has no clunk at all.

What do you think?

Will I be able to rebuild this one with only a new spider (tripot) or should I get a new inner CV (reusing shaft and outer CV). As i said before, the only place that sells complete axles is autozone...

After taking it out and checking both, they are OK. The vibration and noises I've been hearing were caused by a deffective replacement engine mount; after replacing it with a DEA A2796HY from autozone, it shows no noises and the ride is as soft as can be.
