Rack and Pinion replacement

at 210,000mi, the old girl is leaking PS fluid out the pass side rack seal. $250.00 is kind of a lot to spend on it for a GM rack from rockauto plus alignment. No way am I wasting time putting in a cardone unit (I've had enough experience with them). Used ones from 97-03 are hard to come by with a fair amount of milage. Anyone know if an 04+ unit will fit? My cars a 2000 GTP with variable assist.

My manual shows part number 26079912 for 97-03 GP's and 88955437 for 04+ so I don't think they are interchangeable. Both are magnasteer, and I also remember reading something about magnasteer II for newer models.
