Tech Tip- Body paint stand

I've been building models for a while and finding a way to securely hold car bodies while priming or painting them has always been a hassle.
If you're like me you've tried using everything from soda bottles and spray cans, to coat hangers and wire, to fabricate a body stand.
There is nothing more frustrating than finding out your stand isn't secure!

I have finally found the answer!

This is an item I purchased and modified to hold my 1/24 scale bodies. I'm sure it will work on other scales with minor adjustments.

It even TURNS!

The stand grips the body from the inside with minimal pressure and has rubber coated arms so that it doesn't mare the surface.

Total cost...$1.50 :D

heheh another really cheap way of gettign a stand is the cardboard roll in the toilet roll just take it out and use masking tape to secure it onto your model simple, cheap and easy to find... :P

here how it looks and i use it all the time never dropped a model

I just use an apple juice glass bottle with sticky tack on top and haven't had a problem.

I thought about seliing them on Ebay...but I wanted to tell all my AF friends about them first.

These are doll stands! I bought 5 of them at my local Wal-Mart for $1.50 each. All I did was bend the "arms" to grip outward instead of inward.

Davoaldo- Sound like a neat idea. I've tried lots of things and though I never dropped a body, they often shift and wiggle around while spraying. Just enough to make me nervous and scare the crap out of me a few times!

Hehehe you just have to use some ticky maskign tape or what ever to stick it down so even if it wiggle it will never fall off :P

Makes me wish that there was a Wal-Mart near me.

That looks like a neato thingy! Prob is where would you keep your car to dry immediately after painting...as in...I usu. put in it a box with the my old spray can 'stand' still attached?

That is pure genious my friend! Looks like it would work very well indeed. I have a stand I rigged out of coat hanger, but I'm always looking for something better. I've also tried using a regular 'sponge'. Tuck it up into the body and it will conform and hold the car really well. Let it stick out the bottom so there's something to hold onto while you spray.
