My 2001 vw Beetle won't make right turn?

2001 vw beetle won't make a right turn. The stering wheel will turn all the way but the wheels won't turn with it. It makes a loud popping/slipping sound when I turn it. Does anyone know what the problem would be? It still turns left fine.
