the north american VIII is just fine. if you want it to run like the Euro ones, just purchase the Brain. everything is the same... i've looked over both versions... even torn both down to bare metal.. they are the same. with the exception being one has the ACD. which you can purchase for some odd 3k... or there abouts.

Evo's in the U.S. Totally suck!!

They are family cars. They should never be used for racing because they are slow. Besides, they are UGLY!!!

if you like the looks of the VII, all you've to do is acquire all the fairings and the wing of the VII. it all bolts directly up to the VIII. THEY ARE THE SAME CAR.

get the ACD, then you are game.

hahaha... slow, you must have never piloted an Evo 'fore.

if there is a "slow" Evo out there, then it is not an Evo.
Evo's are built specifically for racing. there just happens to be a street version (GSR), and it is not hard to make them a rallye car (RS).

the FQ-300 Evo is the one that comes with the six speed gear-kit, as well as more boost.

it is not a strong gear-kit though... it is like the Subarus. that is why that particular one is not used for rallye.

who cares if it doesn't look as good as past Evo's. from the wheel all you notice is the blur of trees, and other cars will only see the arse end of it, and even that they won't see for very long.

i concur... i'm not quite sure what they were thinking with the Econo-box... or perhaps that is in fact what they were thinking... attack the civics.

the Evo is anything but slow. how could anyone say such a thing like the Evo is slow......

Evo-family car... that is arguable. it is certainly not a daily driver. not to say that i don't drive mine every day (or close to that) though.

Unknown,

I have seen an Evo 8 in the USA do a 1/4 mile in 12 seconds spot on, just with a few bolt on modifications, and the Mclaren F1 does the 1/4 mile in 11.6 seconds. Slow eh?

Oh and I have also seen 7-800 hp Evo 6 and 7s. Also slow  ("sarcasm").

Evo's do not require many things to pull a 12 spot-on. the key is shifting...

DO NOT spin the engine to 7k+... this is a turbine powered car. make your chang-ups at 5500 revs, and she will accelerate in a fit of fury.

After breaking in my EVO8 (two days) I did a 3-day weekend roadrace (Proautosports -- track testing/tuning) track where in our Street Performance Green Group, passing is allowed anywhere. Intersting comment about how this is a family car and should never be raced. I basically shocked everyone there who never encountered one of these in the Club. They were amazed how I destroyed everything on the track (including some Race-class Miatas, RX7s, BMWs) EXCEPT for a trailored-in Z06 which was race-prepped, and one '03 TURBO PORSCHE. These pulled away from me maybe a couple car-lengths per lap. The stock tires (Yoko Advans) were almost as good as a road race compound tire, and the only reason I could haul in and pass very light weight Miatas and RX7s in the twisties section of the track. I wore off half of their tread in 2 and a half days of track time. I also completely wore out the stock Brembo pads, although I had incredible braking the entire weekend with the ability to "trail brake" into any turn at crazy approach speeds. The EVO tracked like a slot-car without a single incident of getting out of shape. I replaced the brake pads with EBC YelloStuff compound (race only?) which work fine on the street for a month now. They survived another road race weekend are are not even half worn yet !! I also AUTOCROSSED the EVO the second weekend I had it, and while still learning the limits of the car I had a best time of only 1.5 seconds behind the SS-class winning Z06 that day. The EVO ran A-stock class and pax-timed out to only a half second behind this winning Z06 after the times were equalized between the various classes.....the EVO took 4th best time of the day (this WAS while using Hoosier Autocross tires, which the other top finishers were also using). Oh no, this car should NEVER be used for racing..........what a geek.
