Hi,
I have a 95 Tahoe 4wd, and this morning on my way to work, the brake peddle went to the floor.:shakehead I made it to work and discovered that the steel line that runs across the front frame crossmember to the R/F caliper rotted out. I have never seen a brake line rot out. WTF!?! I know I'll have to make a new one, but does anyone know what sizr it is? Is it std. or metric? Thanks so much!

That happens a lot.
Remove old line and take to parts place.
They may have one all ready made up .
If not they should have line and fittings to make one up.
Most steel line is 3/16 or 1/4 in.
But fittings may or not be metric.

this should be 1/4in. tubing, since your at work to get around/home use a vise grip to crush the brake line so no more fluid leaks out. top off res .
you can get brake line from auto store. the GM fittings on components use bubble flare. this is with a flare of 30 deg approx. the SAE flares are 45 deg. I have used 45 deg flares on GM 30 deg fittings it just takes more torque to rehape the Tubing flare to seat correctly but this is to be avoided.
these older GM vehicles have stronger tubing less failures . the newer 1999 and up fail on a regular basis. very soft poor quality steel rusts out after 3-5 yrs in the rust belt.

Thanks for the info. I was able to find out from my local dealer that the line is 3/16. But I'm wondering that if this is such a problem, and since I want to hang on to the truck for a while(3 to 5 more years), is it worth it to switch all of them out for a complete set of stainless
brake lines I found for around $220?

you can buy some brake line for 20.00 and bend into shape to fit using the existing body/frame plastic fasteners. if its 3/16 in. , this is very easy to bend / shape into position . you can splice in the section of line that is corroded if the rest of the line looks good.
if all the lines are rusted then I would replace them ALL.
on my 2000 SIL nbs truck the driverside wheel well these lines do take a beating . I used some black fiber mineral based rust proofing along with extending down the inner fender wall [rubber roofing] to protect the lines and engine from wheel splashing and rock throwing .
surprised the front calipers use the 3/16in lines.
