This buildup will not be as good as Scale-Master one. He was my inspiration years ago when I first got my JPE and his post are still my go do info for this kit (and future JPE) If my buildup end up half as good as his, I will be happy

Few months ago, I had the luck to find this kit for cheap on eBay. The kit was “used” and some building was done. As far as I can see, the builder stopped at Step 14 (out of 46) and was advertised as the Carpet missing (MFH will come to the rescue) So for about 1/3 of the regular price, it looked like a good deal.

I didn’t like his paint job nor the color, and while dissembling, I found a lot of small mistake I didn’t like. So while doing dissembling, I did it all the way. Everything was removed and I’m back to Step 1. Few part was broken, but nothing CA glue can’t repair.

All the aluminum parts was paint stripped. While the paint job was good enough to paint over it, small detail would have been lost after so many coat of paint. I also noted the old builder used regular primer (not metal) and paint was quite fragile.

So first step is the steering case. Noting was much done except painting and I added BareMetal fold to the extremity to add details.

Here I added few details. The fuel pump had some wire added (I used TopStudio connector) and will be connected to the fuel tank later.

Side panels are installed with his new color. Metal primer from M.Hobby was put, then Tamiya white primer. 3 coat of ZeroPaint color + 2 coat of clear. The result after polishing is much better than before. Interior of the panel was paint flat black with airbrush (was brush painted by the old builder)

Great score!
If I had found one at that price I might not have decided to scratchbuild the one I'm doing now.
Looking very nice.

Not much update since I don't have much free time lately and this is quite a consuming time kit.

Break pads are repainted with Alclad Pale Burn Metal (a nice goldish color) I used TopStudio connector to make the brake fluid line connection to the pad. Cable and heat shrink complete the front and for the back, I also used .3mm cable to twist around the cable to give extra strength to it. (I later removed this for the front pads since I needed flexibility)

The assembly of the front suspension is a bit tricky. Lot of small screws and fitting must be done, all this basically at the same time. The brake fluid lines are then inserted through the body using a connector I cut and put heat shrink over it using a 1mm hole I did before the painting.

Nice progress.
A couple (really) minor suggestions.

From the angle of the photo it looks like you might need a little more slack in that front brake line if you want to be able to turn the steering full lock.

Double check the screw you have just in front of the (same) brake line entry point to the body. I think it is supposed to be a smaller (BB4) screw.

Keep it up, great color choice...

Thanks for the feedback.

The brake line aren't glued and move freely in the "connector" I made on the body. So they will adjust as soon as I have the full steering made (right now it's rather hard to move)

As for the screw, you are right. One thing the old owner kept was a few screw. I had to buy new one from scalehardware. That and the nuts for the wheel (which I have 8 of them out of 16.... grrr..)

I have changed the front screw for a smaller one. More picture soon, I'm currently on the interior. Will post picture of the progress this week

Looking stunning, and well done for finding a bargain kit. With your skills the small problems shouldn't turn in to big ones!

Here's a little update. Not a lot of time lately.

There's not much to comment on those steps except that The kit was missing the carpet, so I ordered some Model Factory Hiro adhesive carpet and used the template from my other Caterham. The MFH one is actually thinner than the Tamiya one and is quite easy to install.

Other body parts are painted and waiting for clear coat / polish. Will update later with pictures.

Thanks everyone!
