Here is a site on how to crank the torsion bars on a Ranger (yeah yeah, I know it's a ford.) It's the same as on your Silverado. I'm thinking about doing the same thing to my 2000 Silverado 1500 4X4.

KRAZYMATT-

If your truck is a 2wd, you have front coil springs--NOT torsion bars. There are lots of ways to change ride height in 2wd trucks... you could go with drop spindles, spring spacers, air ride, or even replace the springs altogether. If it's a drop you're looking for, I'd recommend NOT cutting the springs.... it's cheap, but your ride and handling will suffer dramatically, and I personally think it's just plain unsafe.

If your truck is a 4x4 then you can gain up to about 1 1/2 inches by cranking up your torsion bars BUT don't do it! It screws up your ride (Makes it rough) Limits your suspension travel & is bad for your tires.

Do you want to lower or raise it. Don't do anything cheap when dropping or raising it'll be worse in the long run.

I've had mine cranked since it was new (Not to the extreme, just enough to make me happy), no problems. I turned a buddies 7 rounds 2002 HD and he sees no problems. It all depends on what makes you happy.
