What Is This?

Hello All!
I have a 97 Lincoln Town Car and was installing a new light switch, well I removed the area where the light switch was located and just happened to look under where the steering column goes thru the bottom and happened to see a bar or something like it that is shaped like this --------C I mean similar to that but it is a long bar with a U shape and it was pulled back out of the way. I use to have a 88 Lincoln and remembered this bar and it was hooked up somewhere but I can't remember now. Can someone please help with this I can't finish putting my car back together until I find out where this piece goes.

Sounds like a support bracket for the dash. If it isn't electrical, it isn't critical. A picture would be most helpful.
