My 97 grand am cuts out when i rev the engine around 4000 is there a rev limiter on the engine ?? has the Quad 4 engine.

Yes there is a limiter on your engine! All GM cars and trucks have them built into the software of the PCM. Depending on your speed rating of your tires determines the fuel cutoff RPM.

is that when you are in park? usually the revlimiter is alot less when it is in park than when you are moving. if you are going down the road, and put it in neutral, I bet you can get the RPM's higher.

This is for my friend we have no idea how to shut off the rev limiter in his ''97 Grand AM GT any one know how??

To turn off the rev limiter=virtually impossible, and stupid
Disabling the rev limiter will allow your engine to run super-high RPM's...that's bad, because it won't be able to handle the extra strain, thus the reason behind the rev limiter...
If you want it to go faster, than you want to disable the speed limiter, which you can usually do with a new ECU chip...not sure where to get those or how much for grand am's...
