Rolex 24 at Daytona - Photo Coverage

This past weekend was full of race fuel, burnt rubber, and clashing of the titans at the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Raceday couldn't have had better weather, and the teams were ready to kick off the 2013 racing season. Racing through the night, fog, and bright sunshine, AF made sure to cover all of the action!

Below are just a few snapshots of the event, taken from the several thousand photos that were shot that day. Daytona is definitely one of my favorite events. It's not just a race, it's a 24 hour party.

FROM LEFT:With dusk came thick fog, which gave teams a chance to make final repairs with a 1hr 45min full course caution.

Thanks Ray! There were several dozen Porsche's there, which got pretty old after awhile. Hopefully Sebring will be a different story!

I keep telling myself I'm gonna get back to Sebring also. About as close I ever get is when my mother in-law pulls hers into the driveway... Someday.

Great shots! How about some exposure info... (camera settings)? Like for the #61 Ferrari nightime shot. What shutter speed are you using when you pan the shot?

Thanks! Most of the shots were shot with a shutter speed between 1/60 and 1/30. Throughout the race I'd have to compensate with aperture size, and eventually when night fell the ISO.

The Ferrari shot at night with the Ferris wheel above was shot at:
f/2.8
ISO 500
1/40"
Canon 1D Mark II
Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS II
100mm Focal Length

Yeah...a ferris wheel. I was wondering what it was. Love that shot. You have pretty good hands for 1/60 - 1/30 th/sec. Or the VR lenses work really well. I really enjoyed your work. Hope to make it up there. Charlie
